St. John’s-based CoLab Software helps employees starting new families with maternity and parental leave
top-ups for new mothers, fathers and adoptive parents (to 80 per cent for 15 weeks) — and when back at
work, new parents can tailor their work schedules to accommodate child-caring and family responsibilities.
A
tlantic Canada is a region in the midst of a
remarkable transformation. In recent years,
the four Atlantic provinces have emerged as
one of the country’s most compelling stories
of growth and renewal. Driven by interprovincial migration, targeted immigration, and the enduring
appeal of a high quality of life, the region’s population has
expanded in ways that would have seemed improbable
not long ago. This momentum represents not only a
demographic shift, but a significant opportunity for
employers willing to take a long-term view.
Against this backdrop, this year’s Atlantic Canada’s Top
Employers competition arrives at a particularly meaningful
moment. Our 2026 winners — 60 organizations from
across the region — are distinguished not simply by the
strength of their HR programs and benefits, but by their
commitment to helping employees put down roots. They
recognize that attracting talent is only the beginning. The
greater challenge is creating workplaces where employees
can envision a future for themselves: where careers can
develop, families are supported, and a genuine connection
to community can take hold.
What distinguishes this year’s winners is how thoughtfully they have applied our selection criteria (p. 12) to the
unique context of life in Atlantic Canada. Many have
embraced flexible and hybrid work arrangements,
enhanced parental leave, and comprehensive wellness
programs. Others have built robust pathways for career
advancement and professional development, ensuring
that employees can grow within the organization rather
than look elsewhere. Still others have strengthened their
ties to local communities through volunteer initiatives,
charitable partnerships, and sustained local investment.
Together, these efforts reflect the long-term perspective
that is the hallmark of the region’s leading employers.
The broader economic context reinforces why this work
matters. Atlantic Canada has demonstrated a notable
resilience in integrating newcomers into its labour force.
Immigrants who have settled in the region have consistently seen stronger employment outcomes than their
counterparts elsewhere in Canada — a testament to the
efforts of employers and communities alike. As immigration policies continue to prioritize economic contribution,
employers that invest in welcoming and retaining
newcomers will be especially well positioned. The
challenge, and the opportunity, lies in sustaining that
momentum over the long term.
This year’s winners span both the private and public
sectors, representing industries as diverse as financial
services, energy, healthcare, technology, education, and
community services. Detailed reasons for selection for
each of the 2026 winners were published this morning at
