MONTRÉAL’S TOP EMPLOYERS (2026)
in a row by Montréal Top Employers, the
demand for roles that combine technical
prowess and creative ability has only
grown.
“Anything that has the balance between
a tech competency and a creative esthetic
is still very difficult to fill,” says Michael
Chan, head of people and operations at
Compulsion Games. “Finding that
marriage all the time isn’t easy, so those
roles remain competitive.”
That scarcity has forced employers to
rethink how they attract and retain talent.
With specialized talent in high demand,
keeping employees engaged with desirable
work environments is as important as ever.
At Compulsion Games, this approach
has manifested in a people-centric
workplace. In practice, that means
flexibility around where work happens,
generous benefits, paid sabbaticals and
extensive parental leave. The physical
workplace is also a top priority, with open
space, catered lunches and social
initiatives.
“We always say we want you to want to
be here,” says Chan. “That applies to the
work but also the environment.”
Coveo has taken this open-minded
supportive approach a step further,
holding an innovate event twice a year,
where research and development
employees can step away from their work
and spend time on a passion project
without deadlines or competition, purely
to spark creative energy.
“Organizations are really connecting to
the unique creative and artistic culture of
Montréal,” says Cypress Weston, assistant
editor at Canada’s Top 100 Employers.
“They’re competing by creating environments where creativity is enabled,
protected through things like physical
space, training, development and
recognition.”
Companies such as Compulsion Games
and Coveo demonstrate that employers in
Montréal are transforming, not just
through technology, but through people-centric workplaces that encourage
development, creativity and work-life
balance.
This ecosystem is one of many reasons
the city continues to stand as a destination
for employers and tech workers — not just
in Canada, but on the global stage.
