At Groupe CH, employees win as ‘one team’
B
enjamin Goyer grew
up playing hockey, so
as soon as he had the
opportunity to move
from an internship
to a permanent position within
Groupe CH, the owner of the
Montreal Canadiens and the Laval
Rocket, he jumped on it — even if
it meant working full-time while
finishing up his undergraduate
degree. “As soon as I had the
chance to stay, there was no way I
was leaving.”
You come to work
on game day and
employees are full of
passion and energy.
It’s almost as if they’re
going to play the game
themselves.
— Benjamin Goyer
Coordinator, Retail Experience
Now a coordinator of retail
experience, Goyer buys merchandise for all points of sale including
the Bell Centre and Place Bell.
What struck him most was the
energy and pride employees bring
to their work every day.
“You come to work on game
day and employees are full of
passion and energy. It’s almost as
if they’re going to play the games
themselves,” he says. “There’s not
one boring day here. You could
start the day answering emails and
suddenly find yourself downstairs
helping a well-known guest
behind the scenes at the Bell
Centre. Every single day is something special.”
As the premier sports and entertainment organization in Quebec, Groupe CH applies a 'one team' philosophy
to its workforce and ensures employees feel valued.
Groupe CH is Quebec’s
premier sports and entertainment
organization. Beyond owning the
Montreal Canadiens and the Laval
Rocket, the company’s entertainment and cultural division
(Evenko and L’Équipe Spectra)
promotes and presents more than
1,600 shows, festivals and events
each year. These festivals include
le Festival International de Jazz
de Montréal, Les Francos de
Montréal, Montréal en Lumière,
OSHEAGA, îLESONIQ and
LASSO. In addition to the Bell
Centre, the group owns or acts as
exclusive manager for multiple
venues of all sizes such as Place
Bell, MTELUS, Le Studio TD, le
Théâtre Manuvie, le Club and the
Beanfield Theatre.
Sandra Petosa, senior
vice-president of talent, culture
and diversity, says the company
has an ethos of ‘one team’ that
extends across every corner of the
business — from security guards
and concessions teams to hockey
operations and office employees.
“No matter what, the puck
is going to drop and the show
must go on. It’s all about how we
work together as ‘one team’ to
ensure the event is a unique and
memorable experience for fans
and spectators,” Petosa says.
George Hatzichristos, talent
buyer for booking, concerts and
events, feels that collaborative
spirit daily. “We work together to
get the best shows — we don’t care
who gets them. We just want to
build something successful. We
win as a team,” he says.
Petosa says the ‘one team’
philosophy is also about making
sure employees feel valued. Every
Wednesday, employees gather for
a midweek mingle — a moment
to recharge, enjoy snacks and
build relationships. Throughout
the year, the company also hosts
friendly hockey games on Bell
Centre ice, social “5 à 7” gatherings, summer barbecues and team
activities to raise funds for the
annual United Way campaign.
