Ed Donkersteeg, lead engineer, at Hydro Ottawa.
project management, standards,
metering and more. Working for
the utility was something he says
was “always in the back of my
mind” while he was in university,
because of the essential service
that Hydro Ottawa provides to
the community.
“I was very attracted to that,”
he says. “When I joined, I was
happy I made the choice. It’s a
collaborative environment, with a
lot of good people who are always
willing to share what they know.”
Burnett Vachon notes that the
electricity sector is only becoming
more complex, with “more
technology built into everything
we do.” Engineers at the utility
are “working on projects and
designing solutions that don’t
exist yet; they’re getting a chance
to create it,” she says. “Our
engineers are working on big,
foundational ideas and
projects that will modernize the
grid and how electricity reaches
our customers.”
