With a focus on employee
wellness and connections that go
beyond the nine to five, the City
hosts regular purposeful pop-ups
designed to foster employee
engagement and supports
employee-led social clubs.
Employees at the City of Coquitlam are encouraged to explore new roles or stretch projects across the
organization.
Coquitlam provides strong
support for staff mental health,
Stuart notes, including its Mental
Wellness Champion program,
in which trained employees
serve as peer resources to
support colleagues experiencing
difficulties. Last year, the City
of Coquitlam became the first
municipality to win a Canadian
Workplace Well-Being Award
from the Canadian Positive
Psychology Association.
Despite having about 1,300
full-time employees, the City
maintains a close-knit feel. For Joyce,
that’s what makes Coquitlam
special. “I’m here because the
work is meaningful,” she says,
“and because the relationships we
build are real and lasting.”
