“Here in Fort St. John, our
doctors’ offices have the same
hours as we do. I’ve never had an
issue with taking my two-year-old
son to a doctor’s appointment if
he’s sick,” says Nyamekye, who’s
expecting a second child this year.
“They’re just super supportive.
They know that life happens.”
Nyamekye has also taken
advantage of up to seven hours of
paid time off to volunteer — in her
case for the Fort St. John Women’s
Resource Society. “They are open
Monday to Friday so I would never
have been able to do it outside of
my work hours,” she notes.
As it happened, her husband
has also been promoted to a

management position during the
couple’s short time in northern
B.C. “It makes me feel like it was a
great decision to leave Ontario and
take this chance,” Nyamekye says.
“We’ve both evolved and grown in
our careers.”
