F
or employers in Saskatchewan, the past year has
underscored a reality that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore: the nature of work is
changing, and with it, the expectations
employees bring to the workplace. Economic
uncertainty, demographic pressures and ongoing labour
shortages continue to shape hiring decisions across the
province. Yet beneath these familiar challenges lies a
deeper shift — one that speaks less to short-term volatility
than to the long-term sustainability of organizations
themselves.
In this environment, Saskatchewan’s leading employers
have distinguished themselves not by resisting change, but
by responding to it with deliberation and purpose. The
organizations recognized as Saskatchewan’s Top Employers
(2026) operate across a range of sectors, from public
institutions and Crown corporations to private enterprises
and community-based organizations. What unites them is
not a single policy or program, but a shared recognition
that competitiveness increasingly depends on how well
employers support, develop and engage their employees.
Labour-market conditions in Saskatchewan remain
tight, particularly for skilled workers. At the same time,
employee expectations continue to change, shaped by
greater mobility, technological change and a reassessment
of work-life priorities that began during the pandemic. In
response, this year’s winners have invested in flexible work
arrangements, expanded learning opportunities and
benefits programs designed to support employees across
different stages of their careers. These initiatives are not
without cost. But they reflect an understanding that the
expense of inaction — in turnover, disengagement and
lost institutional knowledge — is far greater.
Now in its 21st year, Saskatchewan’s Top Employers forms
part of our national Canada’s Top 100 Employers project,
which evaluates organizations using eight established
criteria, including workplace environment, benefits,
training, performance management and community
involvement. The result is a rigorous and transparent
assessment of how employers translate stated values into
day-to-day practice.
The employers featured in this magazine offer more
than individual examples of success. Taken together, they
illustrate how Saskatchewan organizations are adapting to
structural change while maintaining a strong connection
to their communities and employees. The decisions they
are making today about their workforces will shape not
only their own futures, but the broader fortunes of the
province.
As you turn the pages of this year’s announcement
magazine, spare a thought for the employers that did not
make this year’s list. This year’s winners are raising the bar
for other employers in the province, challenging them to
build stronger, more resilient organizations that will
remain strong in the face of any economic challenges.
