at Creative
Options Regina (COR), he got a
ride with a friend from his home
about two hours away, as he did
not have a car. Singh made it to
a second-round interview, which
was to be a week or two later.
When he mentioned that getting
back might be a challenge, the
interview team quickly notified
people and rearranged schedules
so he could have the interview
that same day. Singh says this is
when he knew COR — which
provides support for people with
intellectual disabilities — was a
special place.
“They didn't need to do that,”
says Singh. “They didn’t know me.
I just came for an interview, and
they did that for me. So that was
big for me.”

Ben Morris, creative director,
COR Studio, leads Creative
Encouragers, which explores
employee passions and helps
employees create opportunities
for them to share their hobbies,
crafts or sports with co-workers
and colleagues on paid company
time. For example, when Singh
told Morris he likes playing chess,
they started a chess club.
“This place supports you to
grow and listens to your ideas,”
says Morris. “If you have an idea,
they say, ‘Let’s make that happen.’
You feel heard. You feel like
your ideas have merit and value.
And I think that has been what
has helped me stay focused and
engaged and excited about coming
to work at COR for the last 10
years.”
Morris says these opportunities
also help COR’s supports (who
work with the people they care
for) in ways beyond the chance
just to pursue their interests. “It
helps turn out great leaders,” he
says. “They are seeing themselves
as leaders of a small group and
seeing their ideas and passions
in action and how they can bring
their ideas to their role within the
organization.”
These also help create
meaningful connections between
co-workers. “You are doing
activities with people who have
the same interests, which is why
we’re so tightly knit and why we
all care for each other and like to
spend time together,” Morris says.
“I am so lucky to get to see
so many sparks come to life. I
