Saskatchewan businesses earn more Top Employer honours
High quality of applications leads editors to boost the number of winners
F
or 21 years, Saskatchewan
companies and organizations
have entered the annual
Saskatchewan’s Top Employers
competition for recognition as a
noteworthy place to work in the province.
As with the annual Canada’s Top 100
Employers competition, now in its 26th
year and managed by the same people,
entries are judged on eight general
categories: (1) Workplace; (2) Work
Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial
& Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time
Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6)
Performance Management; (7) Training &
Skills Development; and (8) Community
Involvement.
To their credit, the quality of the
Saskatchewan applicants this year
prompted the Top 100 organizers to
increase the winners’ list to 34 from 30 in
2025. Just as encouraging, in a corporate
milieu dominated by large Crown
corporations, “that increase was driven
primarily by private sector organizations,”
says Kristina Leung, managing editor of
the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project.
Leung also highlighted another notable
accomplishment. More than 30 per cent of
the businesses on the Saskatchewan’s Top
Employers (2026) winners’ list had
double-digit growth in full-time employment, the highest percentage of any of the
provincial competitions.
Richard Yerema, executive editor of
Canada’s Top 100 Employers, says of
Saskatchewan: “I think there’s a very free
environment in which to live, and that
resonates with a lot of people. The quality
of life is very good. What we’ve seen this
year is a lot of organizations doubling
down on taking care of their people. It’s
kind of baked into the (Saskatchewan)
DNA.”
