A caring Teck is future-focused, people-powered
K
ama Sills knows it’s an
exciting time at Teck
Resources Limited as
the company advances
it's copper strategy
and new opportunities for
employees abound. For now,
she’s found her special place in
Teck at Highland Valley Copper
(HVC) Operations, Canada’s
largest copper mine located in the
interior of British Columbia.
“I’ve had opportunities to look
at advancements and different
kinds of work, but where I’m at
now is a great fit for Teck and a
great fit for me,” says Sills.
“I absolutely love the work I do.
I’m passionate about it because I
have impact and a feeling of being
a part of something bigger and
making a difference.”
Headquartered in Vancouver,
Teck is a Canadian resource
company focused on responsibly
providing metals essential for
global development and the
energy transition. Its 7,200
employees run world-class copper
and zinc operations. Currently it’s
working on a proposed merger
with U.K.-based Anglo American
to create a new critical minerals
champion and top five global
copper producer that would be
headquartered in Canada.
As senior Indigenous
engagement lead for HVC, Sills
finds her current job is so fulfilling
it provides all the career growth
and job satisfaction she needs.
Working with the Indigenous
communities of the Nlaka’pamux
Nation (in whose traditional
territories the mine operates)
is challenging and immensely
rewarding.
“We’re developing a
Reconciliation action plan,
incorporating more Indigenous
knowledge with application and
equal weight with Western science
and being open to embracing new
ways of moving forward together,”
says Sills.
“The reason I love my job and
I'm passionate about it is because
Teck supports those values. I feel
like I have an opportunity to be a
bridge between industry and the
Indigenous communities I work
with. That’s incredibly fulfilling.”
Teck’s commitment to
community building is just one
of many ways the company gives
its employees a sense of shared
mission, says Andrea Leroux, vice
president transformation.
“We have a purpose-driven
strategy that resonates with
people. They feel the passion
and drive to deliver on that,” says
Leroux.
“You can show up at work every
day feeling respected and valued
individually. That makes it a
very rewarding place to be. Teck
recognizes psychological safety
goes along with health and mental
wellness. They understand there
are many facets and take a holistic
approach to safety.”
Teck is on a really
exciting path at the
moment with an
ambitious growth
strategy, and that
means expanded
career opportunities
and global mobility for
employees — whatever
you’re interested in,
there’s something here.

Vice President, Transformation
Teck provides employees with many opportunities to grow their careers with the organization in the
long term.
Leroux says safety is part of the
comprehensive approach Teck
takes to supporting employees,
understanding that different
people have different needs, goals
and lives outside of work.
“We have a culture of care that
recognizes that when you commit
time to being with people in the
same room with the same sense
of common purpose, you build
strong relationships and form
connections that make work more
meaningful,” says Leroux.
“It’s a community with a family
feel where you feel safe, cared for
and respected and that sets Teck
apart.”
For both Sills and Leroux, the
