Work has global impact at Roche Canada
E
ven before she began
working for Roche
Canada, Brigitte Nolet
knew she had found
something special.
“I was interviewing with a few
companies at the time,” she
recalls, “and I did this interview
with Roche and I went back to the
hotel and called my husband and
said ‘I don’t know what it is, but
I have to work for this company.
I met these people and I have to
work with them.’”
Twenty years later, the president
and CEO at the Canadian arm of
the global pharmaceutical giant
is still enthusiastic about the
opportunities at the company.
“Passion meets purpose might
be the way to describe our culture
here at Roche Canada,” Nolet says.
“I think it’s the fact that you can
have global leadership with local
impact. We’re just so fortunate
to have the company investing in
Roche Canada as one of our key
global sites that implements and
drives the global strategy.”
Mithusa Sivanathan, a global
clinical art works manager at
Roche, remembers her first weeks
at the company. “Onboarding was
great. What really stood out was
the availability of people — they
were always there for you, by your
side whenever you needed help.”
Career development is a priority,
she says. “Managers take time to
help employees figure out what
your career goals are, and they
help you grow towards them.”
Nolet emphasizes the
importance of developing talent
within the company, noting that
130 roles have been filled this
year through lateral moves across
functions and geographies. “We
focus on creating opportunities
that encourage curiosity and
learning, allowing employees to
grow both locally and globally.”
Matheus Vieira, president
and general manager of the
Diagnostics Division at Roche
Canada, describes himself as
an example of the company’s
commitment to developing talent
worldwide. Born in Brazil and
trained as a pharmacist, he joined
Roche in Latin America nine years
ago, and after three years there,
told one of his leaders that he
wanted more global experience.

Roche Canada understands the importance of developing talent within the company, focusing on creating
global mentorship opportunities for employees around the world.
“Immediately, I was very well
supported,” says Vieira. “I was
given a mentor to help me guide
my career and in six months I was
moving to Basel.”
Working at Roche’s
headquarters in Switzerland, he
joined a leadership development
program that assigned him a
mentor and a coach. “There are
not many places I know that will
invest so much in talent.”
He moved to the Diagnostics
Division in Helsinki, Finland,
