Employees steer their career journey at Novo Nordisk
L
aura Ramsingh has a
big job ahead of her. For
the next year Ramsingh,
associate director of
clinical development at
Novo Nordisk Canada Inc. (NNCI),
will be managing the establishment
of a clinical development centre
in Canada. The transition will
see Canadian clinical operations
separated from Novo Nordisk’s U.S.
affiliate and pave the way for the
new centre to expand and take on
more trials and patients.
“It’s exciting — my role is to
project manage that transition
with stakeholders and build the
organization so we can keep things
going, keep trials running and
be able to take on new trials as
we grow,” Ramsingh says. “It's an
opportunity to tailor the operations
for Canada.”
Since she joined NNCI — the
Canadian affiliate of the Danish
pharmaceutical giant — in 2018,
Ramsingh has worn a handful
of hats. She started as a strategic
operations manager, had a stint
in medical operations and then
moved into clinical development,
working with the company’s
diabetes, obesity and liver health
therapy areas. There was a learning
curve with each new role, and she
credits NNCI for its support for
professional development.
“The company is a very, very big
proponent of owning your own
development,” she says. “It’s up to
the employee, but Novo puts a big
emphasis on providing support to
equip employees to take the lead.
They’re there for you every step of
the way.”
She also took two maternity
leaves in a three-year span, which
she says “segmented” her career
journey, but she always felt
supported. “When you have breaks
in your career sometimes it can be
hard, but I never felt my growth was
compromised.”
Angie Ng, vice-president of
people and organization, says
NNCI encourages employees
to direct their career based on
their interests and passions, and
supports them along their journey.
Since the beginning of 2025, the
company has invested time and
resources, and will continue to
invest into developing its managers
into “really good coaches.”

Novo Nordisk employees celebrate culture and community at an all-company event.
All managers at the company
have been participating in a
coaching masterclass journey, with
masterclass cafes after every two
classes so they can share ideas
and practise learnings before
continuing with the course.
Leaders are also required to
work with their direct reports on
individual development plans,
and to have regular professional
development meetings, Ng says.
