NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION’S TOP EMPLOYERS (2025)

The National Research Council of
Canada (NRC) is a new name on the
National Capital Region’s Top Employers list.
Emily Harrison, NRC’s vice-president,
human resources, notes that technology
continues to evolve at an accelerating pace.
That means the organization must
compete for the best and brightest in
research and development, while also
equipping employees to find satisfaction
in leading-edge and impactful work.
“Recognition as an NCR Top Employer
validates the efforts we put into making
the NRC a great place to work, from
creating a culture of collaboration,
innovation and inclusion to providing
comprehensive benefits and opportunities
for professional development,” she says.
Egg Farmers of Canada has been one of
the National Capital Region’s Top Employers
for 13 years running. Chief executive
officer Drew Black notes that the
organization needs to offer strong
compensation and a competitive benefits
package to compete with area employers.
However, creating an engaging atmosphere that recognizes social contributions
is also part of the equation. For example,
the organization donated almost four
million eggs to Food Banks Canada in
2023.
“We recognize the charitable
fundraising and volunteer work to which
employees contribute both in and out of
the workplace and celebrate their wins,
big and small,” he says. “Creating a fun
and engaging atmosphere through
employee events also helps to set us apart
among employers.”
Black says that job applicants often
mention the organization’s Top Employer
wins as one of the reasons they want to
work for Egg Farmers of Canada.
“This recognition helps us to reach out
that extra mile as an organization where
people want to work,” he says.
