Employee careers bloom at Edgewood Health Network

Sweeney was
looking for
a job — any job. But she found
something more at the Edgewood
Health Network: She found a
career. And a family.
“I was fresh out of school, but
after I started at EHN, I haven’t
looked back,” she says. “It was my
first real-world job, and I honestly
can’t picture being with another
company. I can’t see myself
somewhere else.”
Investing in our
employees is like
planting seeds.
Together, we’ll be
creating a beautiful
garden when those
seeds come up and
become flowers.

health (and sometimes a
combination of both). But for her,
it was a perfect fit.
“I’m passionate about mental
health. I have close family who
have battled mental health and
addictions issues, so it’s close to
home for me,” Sweeney says.
“It’s great to work for an
organization that supports the
treatment of both of those things.
These people are the type of
clientele that I’m passionate
about.”
Sweeney transitioned into an
administrative role as a senior
human resources administrator
nearly three years ago, a move she
says that shows how EHN offers
employees a multitude of career
advancement opportunities and
the support they need whatever
their current role is.
Given the intense nature of
the work, EHN has committed
considerable resources to create
a comprehensive approach to
employee wellness and worklife balance, says chief human
resources officer Tammy Sergie.
“We’re extremely passionate
about our people and helping
them get better in what they do,
so over the years we have invested
our profits back into the employee
experience because they’re the
core of everything that we do,”
says Sergie.
“Our employees are
multidimensional in terms of their
needs. We look at their financial,
physical and mental health
because we know that working
in health care, and their jobs in
particular, is so very difficult.”
In addition to mental health
allowances and wellness
benefits like access to massage
and chiropractic services,
EHN recently implemented an
enhanced pension plan. Sergie
says EHN believes that for its
employees to make others well,
they have to stay well in mind and
body.
“We don’t want our employees
to worry about their financial or
their physical well-being so they
can focus on providing care to the
people who need our services,”
says Sergie.
“That’s why we take a holistic
approach to supporting them. We
believe a good clinician needs to
have a good clinician.”
