At Keurig Dr Pepper Canada, passion bubbles everywhere
L
ess than two months
into her new marketing
job at Keurig Dr Pepper
Canada (KDP Canada),
Amber Armstrong
landed an iconic brand, helped
to develop an innovative new
campaign and shaped the future
of the business.
“It has been quite the whirlwind
journey,” says Armstrong, associate manager, omni marketing
Nestea. “As a marketer, you don’t
get a lot of opportunities to evolve
a brand that is already so established and to be able to put your
own fingerprint on something that
is so beloved. It was incredible.”
Armstrong’s journey began
last December when her director
unexpectedly sent her to KDP
Canada’s Montréal headquarters,
where she learned the company
had signed a new licensing
agreement with Nestlé Canada
to manage the ready-to-drink
product range of the Nestea brand.
After close to a year of hard
work, she and her colleagues
celebrated Nestea’s successful
launch to the Canadian market,
an achievement that underscored
how quickly employees at KDP
can move from idea to impact.
“When you are so involved
in the planning, execution and
details of your day-to-day work,
it’s hard not to be passionate about
the work that you do,” she says.
KDP Canada strives to create
opportunities for its people to develop their careers, gain visibility
and help build the business, says
Jean Gagnon, vice-president, cold
beverages. For the company to
be a challenger in the beverage
industry, it fosters an environment where employees embrace
risk-taking and innovation.
“Having a challenger mindset
is at the centre of our culture. It
is about delivering big and being
fearless and fair with our colleagues so we can have the right
conversations to grow together.
This is what makes us unique,”
says Gagnon. “We create situations
where everyone feels empowered
to bring innovative ideas to
the table.”
Innovative ideas flourish
whether it is through the design of
the company’s new headquarters
Employees at Keurig Dr Pepper Canada come together to celebrate a Nestea campaign launch with office
events across the country.
(which facilitates creativity and
collaboration), the senior leaders’
open-door policy or the company’s mentorship system where
employees are supported and
guided throughout their KDP
journey. “It’s never the status quo,”
says Gagnon.
When you are so
involved in the
planning, execution
and details of your dayto-day work, it’s hard
not to be passionate
about the work that
you do.

He points to some of the company’s recent successes: its Canada
Dry collection, in collaboration
with Roots, sold out in under an
hour; Crush Zero made waves
with a PR campaign featuring
actor Chad Michael Murray, and
a first-of-its-kind Canadian NHL
arena partnership brought Dr
Pepper, Crush, Canada Dry and
Nestea to fans at Canadian Tire
Centre, making KDP the beverage
partner of the home of the
Ottawa Senators.
“In order to deliver big and
apply that challenger mindset,
you need to be nimble and flexible
and also be willing to take on new
responsibilities and develop as a
person,” says Armstrong.
She recently turned to the
Career Hub portal for help. Earlier
this year, the company launched
the AI-powered, web-based tool to
foster employee growth.
