Listening and learning from employees at IGM Financial

Seo briefly left
her job at IGM
Financial in
2021 to pursue
an opportunity with another
company, she immediately
experienced something she hadn’t
expected: a feeling of being a face
in a crowd. “Here at IGM, my voice
is heard and valued,” she says. “I
didn’t realize how important that
was to me until I had left to work
somewhere else.” She quickly
returned to the fold.
Since Seo first joined the
company in 2018, she has always
felt free to approach her team
leader for advice and to offer her
own feedback — feedback that
often resulted in positive change.
“I can make suggestions for
improvement which usually leads
to a discussion on how we can
make it happen. It’s incredible that
in a company as significant and
as large as IGM Financial, one person’s voice can make a difference
like that.”
“We’ve institutionalized
the process of listening to our
employees, our advisors and our
clients,” says Cynthia Currie,
executive vice president and chief
human resources officer with IGM
Financial. “We take it seriously
and we continue to build on this
every year.”
As one of Canada’s leading
wealth and asset management
companies, Winnipeg-based IGM
Financial includes Mackenzie
Investments and IG Wealth
Management, where Seo works
as a senior specialist in case resolution. Each company operates
separately but shares corporate
functions.
This structure allows employees
to contribute within and across
IGM and its operating companies.
IGM is committed to fostering a
culture of growth and development across the firm, says Currie.
“We believe that meaningful
development happens in the flow
of work and on the job. We offer
our employees access to interesting, impactful work that stretches
their capabilities and accelerates
their growth. We’re committed to
creating an environment where
learning is embedded in every
experience.”
Currie says finding ways to
connect and engage with
employees is a big part of IGM’s
human resources mandate. A
yearly employee engagement
survey is an important tool. The
company also supports seven
employee-driven business
resource groups (BRGs) organized
around diversity, equity and inclusion — groups that are a source of
leadership and direction for the
company.
It’s incredible that in a
company as significant
and as large as IGM
Financial, one person’s
voice can make a
difference like that.

IGM Financial gives back to the local community through various charitable events and initiatives.
A four-pillar company wellness
program focuses on physical,
emotional, financial and social
wellness programs. Giving back to
the community at large is actively
encouraged through charitable
giving events supported by the
company and through days off to
volunteer for community causes.
And the whole company is invited
to fun, seasonal events — like the
annual Summer Sizzle — which
