approximately 50 per cent have
come from diverse backgrounds.”
He adds that the EPS is unique
in North America in that it has
three sworn deputy police chiefs
and three civilian deputies. One of
the civilians oversees the service’s
innovation program, another is
in charge of equality, diversity
and inclusion initiatives. “They
bring different skillsets, different
ideas and new ways of looking at
things,” says McFee.
The service has a welldeveloped wellness program
that employs nurses and fitness
instructors. “We really value the
employee as an individual,” McFee
says. “We try to keep them healthy
so they have long, fulfilling careers
with us.”
