McCue and Lagman both report
that they have never felt held back
by their gender at YRP (in what is
still a male-dominated profession).
Tosca Lagman, constable, at York Regional Police.
The service has a female deputy
chief, Cecile Hammond, and
promotes the hiring and advancement of women. It also hosts
regular women’s recruiting events

camps for aspiring recruits.
Lagman, an immigrant to
Canada from the Philippines,
notes that diversity, equity and
inclusion drive how YRP treats its
members as well as the communities it serves. “We celebrate
things like Asian Heritage Month,
Black History Month and National
Indigenous History Month,
and we support the LGBTQ+
community and religious diversity.
This is another thing that makes
me thankful to be part of York
Regional Police.”
