F
or the past several years, Alberta has been the
most popular destination for Canadian residents
moving within the country. Thanks in part to the
Alberta Advantage, offering job opportunities and
affordability to those moving from elsewhere in
Canada and abroad, the province’s population growth
continues to outpace the rest of the country.
This influx has meant a growing talent pool for employers
– an evolving labour force with diverse needs and expectations that organizations in Alberta have committed to
support. Many top employers, for example, offer competitive benefit programs that include flexible health plans,
financial support for training and pension plans that lead
in the province, and in some cases, the country.
Maintaining this commitment to innovative integration
strategies and progressive benefits remains key for leading employers in Alberta, especially with a population
poised to keep growing and new investment in workforce
skills and training beginning to take shape.
To determine competition winners, employers are compared to organizations in similar industries and of similar
size. Employers are evaluated on eight selection criteria,
which are: (1) Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social;
(3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation &
Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance
Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8)
Community Involvement.

While the underlying criteria have remained consistent
since the project’s inception, areas of review have expanded and evolved with the advent of new programs and
policies. This year’s winning Alberta employers demonstrate what’s possible for organizations to achieve in their
communities and across the country.
Now in its 21st year, Alberta’s Top Employers (2026) represent the most progressive and forward-thinking employers
in Canada’s fastest-growing province.
