Pride and purpose drive S&C Electric Canada employees
E
very June, S&C Electric
Canada hosts the
annual gala dinner for
its Quarter Century
Club, a sizeable and
growing group of current and
retired employees who spent 25
years or more at the company.
Since the club started in 1986, its
ranks have swelled to over 140
members.
“After 25 service years with
S&C, you’re a lifetime member of
the Quarter Century Club,” says
Anders Hultberg, chief operating
officer and president – S&C
Electric Canada. “Even if you
retired, you’re still a part of the
family.”

To Hultberg, the club’s
existence speaks to the company’s
dedication to doing right by its
employees — something that
drew him to the company three
years ago. S&C is the Torontobased subsidiary of S&C Electric
Company, a U.S. provider of
equipment and services for
electric power systems. The
company works with utilities
as well as electricity consumers

such as hospitals, universities,
water treatment plants and other
industries.
“The two things that matter to
us are our customers and our team
members. We’re here to serve
both. If you serve both really well,
you’ll be successful,” Hultberg
says.
The company structures
bonuses to incentivize highquality work and a safety-first
culture, hosts appreciation events
and encourages professional
development, whether that’s
climbing the ladder or trying out
different departments.
“If you want people to stay
for 25 years or more, you need
meaningful development,”
Hultberg says. “For that to happen,
there needs to be constant
communication of goals and
aspirations but also feedback from
their leaders on what’s possible.”
He says employees also have
a strong sense of “pride and
purpose” in the company’s work.
“What we’re putting together
here is not just any equipment or
machinery, it helps us to drive the
electrification of society and all
the goodness of that,” he says.
Fred Bizimana, assistant
manager for sales support, says the
freedom to follow his professional
curiosities has been part of what’s
kept him at S&C. While he’s still
years away from Quarter Century
Club membership, Bizimana has
already racked up a seven-year
tenure at the company since
joining as a data analyst fresh out
of university.
“There’s never a dull moment,”
he says. “Especially with my role,
I’ve had experience with trying
different things and they promote
that. S&C encourages growing
within the company, giving team
members the opportunity to
explore new roles, develop new
skills, and build long-term careers
here.”
Bizimana tracks sales activity
for utility and commercial and
industrial customers, provides
