Financial Group, she was both
honoured and excited to be part
of a company that places value in
building a workplace culture of

says Sahota, technical product

For someone who loves the
company’s values of curiosity and
optimism, it was fitting that she
received the annual Sunshine
Seeker Award.
“It’s all about seeing challenges
as opportunities to learn and
move forward,” she says. “This
value is embedded in me now. It is
close to my heart.”
As a company with a mission
to help Canadians become
financially successful and secure,
Questrade weaves its other values
— being innovative, customercentric, entrepreneurial and agile,
honest with integrity, teamoriented and thinking enterprisewide — into everything it does.

With headquarters in Toronto,
Questrade Financial Group
(the parent company of online
brokerage Questrade) is one
of Canada’s leading financial
services organizations. Through
its companies, it provides
securities, professionally managed
investments, mortgages, real
estate, consumer lending, and
other financial products to people
across the country.
“There is a real focus on
fostering a culture of collaborative
entrepreneurship,” says Emma
Horgan, chief people officer.
“This is really about recognizing
that great ideas can come from
anywhere.”
Sahota and her team are
empowered to experiment
with new technologies and are
currently working on several
projects using AI to make their
processes more efficient and to
better serve customers.
“We have a vision to
revolutionize financial services
for the benefit of all Canadians,”
says Horgan. “Revolutionizing an
industry is innovation.”
And innovation only really
happens by investing in people.
Committed to promoting from
within, Questrade fosters
continuous improvement and
growth for its employees with
resources like certification
courses, an educational assistance
program that offers up to $5,000,
and mentorship and coaching
opportunities.
Recently, LinkedIn Learning
was made available to all
employees. The company also
has a comprehensive, multi-level
leadership academy that offers
12- to 18-month training ranging
from Learn to Lead to executive
leadership programs.
“We are a high-growth company
that is focused on the continued
growth of the business and our
people,” says Horgan.
Since joining Questrade about
eight years ago as a customer
service representative, Sahota
has continued to grow and
advance in her career. To help
her development, she took
advantage of valuable one-onone mentorship from different
managers, both formally and
informally. They helped her to set
career goals, look at the obstacles
in her way and build a plan for
moving forward.
“The leaders around you
organically help you out,” says
Sahota. “As long as you have that
drive to do more, the managers are
campaigning for you. They hold
your hand and guide you to the
resources you need.”
Questrade’s partnerships with
organizations such as JA Central
Ontario and Food Banks Canada
foster a strong sense of purpose
