Philips’ caring culture powers employee engagement
S
tacey Shainline, head
of human resources for
Philips Canada, says
she owes her life to the
company’s products
and people. While Shainline was
pregnant with twins, a routine
ultrasound revealed a rare
condition known as twin-to-twin
transfusion that threatened the
lives of her fetuses.
“The test was done with a
Philips ultrasound machine, by
a sonographer trained by Philips
employees. I knew the person that
sold that ultrasound machine,
and the person who would be
doing the work to maintain that
machine,” she says.
My loyalty to Philips
is hugely deep. I feel
strongly that we
make an important
contribution to
humanity in the work
that we do at Philips.

As a result of that scan,
Shainline was induced, and her
two daughters arrived “feisty
and shockingly healthy.” But
Shainline’s story didn’t end there.
Just over a week after returning
home with her newborns,
Shainline was re-admitted to the
hospital. Tests showed congestive
heart failure, and Shainline
was later diagnosed with
eclampsia, a rare and potentially

of pregnancy. While in hospital,
Shainline suffered a seizure and
slipped into a coma.
“I knew I was going to be okay,”
she says today. “I knew that
Philips was all around me. As
passionate as I had been about
Philips prior to any of this
happening, its products were
now literally helping save my
life.”

“My loyalty to Philips is hugely
deep. I feel strongly that we make
an important contribution to
humanity in the work that we do
at Philips,” says Shainline, whose
twins are now 16 years old. She
adds she is one of thousands of
employees who have first-hand
stories about how Philips

Amazon. “The focus on health
care is something I align with. It’s
a very important mission for all
of us,” he says. “I’m proud that
Philips is focused on improving

Seif-El-Nasr points out that, in
